Ixya (pronounced  ee-sha) burst onto the scene at the age of 12 singing alongside her idol, Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer Linda Ronstadt. The name Ixya, a Mayan word meaning female bird, was given to her by father Fermin Herrera, a well respected harpist and Nahuatl scholar.

The youngest of five children, Ixya grew up in a musical family equally conversant with classical, blues, rock, and Mexican music. Her upbringing and rigorous voice training from master teachers such as Seth Riggs ("voice coach to the stars") have prepared Ixya to sing in a variety of styles with astounding ease and authenticity.

Ixya Herrera made her stage debut at the Tucson International Mariachi Conference singing duets with Linda Ronstadt who invited Ixya to perform on numerous occasions during her "Fiesta Mexicana Tour". Ixya has also shared the stage with the legendary Mexican singer Lola Beltran at the Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference. She has since performed all over the US and Mexico including performances at the Los Angeles California Plaza, the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, the Schwob School of Music in Columbus, Georgia, the Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Denver, the John Anson Ford Theatre in Hollywood, UCLA's Royce Hall, the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, the Orange County Center for the Performing Arts, Teatro de la Ciudad in La Paz, Baja California, , Televisa Foro 2 and the Convento del Carmen in Mexico City.

“I remember meeting Ixya for the first time, a young woman who was the vision of grace and charm, both offstage and on. Although our schedules and life events have often prevented us from meeting as often as we would have liked in the last three years, with my migration now permanent, Ixya and I are planning opportunities for performance and pedagogical collaborations over the coming years.”

Ixya has released three CD’s of classic Mexican songs and sones and has been praised by publications such as Billboard Magazine, which awarded Ixya a star for musical excellence for her first album, “Primavera”, and wrote of her, "This classy Oxnard, California siren displays astonishing power, range, and graceful maturity." The LA Weekly wrote, "blazing...vocal and inspirational diversity...her voice soars and dives...an ability to tell a story with authenticity as well as an alluring purr.” The L.A. Times calls Ixya a "singing prodigy...remarkable strength and clarity." The Tucson Citizen proclaims, "an elegant singer with...flawless intonation," and Latin Style declared, "She is nothing short of prodigious"
